Moink is Proud to Offer Two New Varieties of Wild Alaskan Salmon
Hi, Friends! It’s Healthy Hen JoAnna, back to talk to you about a wild topic…Wild-Alaskan Salmon that is! Have you experienced Moink Salmon yet? If not, stop what you’re doing. Well, read this blog post first! Then don’t walk, but RUN to your computer and add some salmon to your next Moink box. You can thank me later!
Not only is wild salmon delicious, but it’s so good for you, too. It’s rich in heart-healthy Omega-3 fatty acids, brain-boosting B vitamins, cancer-fighting antioxidants and immune-boosting Vitamin D. Plus, studies show eating wild salmon improves vision, skin, joint health, mood, cognition and the list goes on. It’s no wonder today’s leading health experts recommend eating this superfood at least once a week.
Moink’s Wild-Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, available in both large and small fillets, has been a customer staple since we launched last year. In addition to its health benefits, Sockeye Salmon is known for it’s vibrant red color and bold flavor. Did you know farm-raised salmon are naturally white since they’re raised in captivity and unable to feed on crustaceans like nature intended? Fish farms give the salmon a chemical feed that changes the color of their flesh to that pretty reddish-pink color. Some companies use a combo of Blue 1, Yellow 5, Yellow 6 and Red 40 dyes to keep their salmon looking bright pink. There is something fishy going on there!
The first time I tried Moink’s Large Sockeye Salmon Fillet, my mind was blown. The flavor, texture, and vibrant color is just out of this world, and it fed my family for three days! When I learned about the sustainable practices of Moink’s salmon partner, Captain Tony Wood of Wild Alaskan Salmon & Seafood Company, I officially became a fan for life.
Tony harvests fresh, wild salmon straight from the crystal-clear waters of Bristol Bay, Alaska. His fish is caught, processed and delivered to your doorstep while it’s still at peak freshness and flavor. Swim away, Frankenfish! No shady coloring tricks here!
Here at Moink, we love that Tony and his wife Heather share our mission for ethically-sourced, humanely-raised meat (and in the case of the fish- wild caught!), and are committed to the care and protection of the Alaskan wilderness. And that’s why we’re so thrilled to share this exciting announcement. Moink is now offering two new species of Tony’s Wild-Alaskan fish, Keta and King Salmon. If you haven’t heard of these varieties, here’s the 4-1-1.
Lighten Up With Keta Salmon
With summer in full swing, we’re all looking for a little lighter fare to help us beat the heat. Wild Keta, also known as Silverbite or Chum, contains less oil content than other species of salmon, giving it a lighter color and milder flavor. It’s also rich in nutrients like Selenium and Potassium. An extremely firm and high-quality salmon, Wild Keta can be smoked, grilled or roasted, and is perfect as a salad topper, in fish tacos and other light and festive summer dishes.
Go Big or Go Home with King Salmon
Ready for your daily dose of trivia? King Salmon, or Chinook, is the official state fish of Alaska. It’s also the biggest of all the Pacific salmon species, growing as long as 53 inches and weighing as much as 126 pounds! King Salmon can also swim upstream and jump nearly ten feet into the air. And with great size and power comes great flavor. King Salmon is bursting with beneficial fat, bright pink color and tender and juicy texture. Cook it in the oven, skillet, grill or smoker, or however your little heart desires. You’ll know your King Salmon is done when it turns a light pink color throughout and feels firm when pressed gently with the back of a fork. Or, don’t cook it at all and just have sushi! You can’t go wrong when you’re dealing with perfection!
We hope you’ll add Keta or King Salmon to your next Moink box, and then tell us all about it! Be sure to snap a pic and tag us on social so we can all admire the bright fishy goodness! If you have a recipe or feedback, please share that with us, too. We love getting rave reviews from our happy customers, like this one from Moinker Cheryl, who just tried our wild salmon over a big summer salad with fruit, feta cheese and a light balsamic dressing:
“I have never tasted salmon so delicious! The color and taste were richer and fuller than what I’ve had in the past. On the days that Moink meat is in our meal, dinner is extra special. Thank you Lucinda, your team and all the fine farmers you work with! Not only are we enjoying some tasty and healthier foods but helping to support a better way of life.”
